Not true, m! I have my log-in status set to 'forever' and I never log out, but the clock stops counting whenever I close the IE window. So I really have been logged in as long as it says (though like Ian it's sometimes 'background noise' while I'm doing other computer-based things ...).

Well I've just been out for lunch, logged on, and my online time hasn't increased.
I'm going to do some other computer work now and see what happens.

Thanks for interpreting my comment, if not entirely as I meant it, then at least not in terms of its literal implication that Ian is generally in the room humming while I'm typing! (I fear it's finally time for Time to be victimised on the pedantry thread. )

Gosh! This is all making me feel much better. I started off by ticking the log in 'for ever' box and have never bothered to log off this site when closing down anyway. Phew! That may explain it. On the other hand that doesn't prove that I do have a life.

Like ros, I just did an experiment that proves it. But I could have SWORN I... I mean, really, I'm SURE I haven't... in fact surely it's not possible that... This is looking bad.

Oh. Ah but <glimmer-of-hope-for-severely-dented-self-respect> I don't actually close the R3OK window (perhaps I should) when I go off and visit other websites to research proper 'work' stuff, or write proper work stuff up. I just carry on 'on top of' it. And in those circumstances, having just tested it, the R3OK clock does carry on ticking away underneath the virtuous stuff. So there may be hope for me yet.

Those personal statistics are fascinating. Perhaps I shouldn't single out other people but I find it curious that Lord Byron is in 19th position with over 1,000 postings and yet he has spent less than three days logged on. I've spent nearly 13 days here for almost 1,000 messages.

Something to do with the amount of thought that goes into the messages? (Just a wild guess.)

Well done on becoming the 20th member of this forum to smash the k-barrier!
Thx. Not true, m! I have my log-in status set to 'forever' and I never log out, but the clock stops counting whenever I close the IE window. So I really have been logged in as long as it says (though like Ian it's sometimes 'background noise' while I'm doing other computer-based things ...). One might find worth in distinguishing between the state of being logged-in and the status of being on-line.

As rich says, something to do with the content of Mi Lord's messages, brief, hardly on-topic, and perhaps also an indicator that he doesn't read anything else?? though to be fair one can read the forum without logging in.
