Thought some board members might be interested and this seems as good a place as any to post that Randy Newman will be on Desert Island Discs tomorrow, 19th Oct. Interview and musical choices should be equally interesting if Ms Young can coax revealing answers.

Cheers BobbyZ. I'll certainly give it a listen. Randy is one of my biggest fans (or something like that)  ...

Thanks, BobbyZ.        Randy Newman's D I Discs is now in my diary, along with the feature on Free Cinema, 13.30 hrs on R4.     A R3 documentary on Byzantium at 20.00 hrs is also noted.

Surprised you've not also noted the NToS Black Watch on 3 this evening, too, Stanley.

I heard Black Watch on a previous R3 broadcast, Ron, and felt that it it should have been recorded for TV as the visual element was probably an important added dimension.

A most enjoyable 44 minutes of real American cool on Randy Newman's D I Discs.   Delighted when he singled out the recording of Beethoven 'Late' String Quartets played by the Hollywood String Quartet, (Felix Slatkin & Paul Shure violins, Alvin Dinkin, viola, & Eleanor Aller, cello) as this is also my favourite on a Testament label 2 CD set.

Funny you should say that Stanley: it was tele-recorded and shown on BBC2 Scotland.  Wink

I caught the D.I.D., too, as I drove to the park-and-ride at the north end of the Forth Road Bridge: a vintage episode of the show, with a fine interviewee and unusual and well-justified choices of music.
