Era solo un mio sospetto

O crumbs, sk, it what I dread.

I will look forward to some technically minded person commenting.

What I would do is turn off the computer.  Turn it on again and plug in the ipod.  (Is it set so the ipod window automatically come up when you plug in?)  Alternatively open itunes on the computer and plug in again.

It doesn't mean your system is hopelessly corrupted.  It may just be being playful.

I sometimes find it helps to reset the ipod as follows:

A Switch the Hold switch on the top on and then off.

B Hold down the centre button and the top of the wheel at the same time until the screen goes blank or with a ghost apple.

C Press the centre button to turn it all on again.

I do these things almost completely by instinct, so it may not be right for you.

At any rate, good luck.

Hi, Don B

I took it to an Apple reseller, who performed your second option.  All seems OK now.  Smiley

Swan Knight,

The diagnostic tests on Apple's website are quite useful. I did have a big problem just over a year ago with mine...it froze and displayed a  Sad face alongside a warning triangle! Not good news! When I eventually went through the website, it looked like I'd have to return the iPod for them to 'operate' on it...the costs, plus the delivery charge made it cheaper to buy a new iPod(!) so I didn't. When the battery ran out, it stopped displaying the warning icon, I recharged it and all was well once more.

I don't quite know how, but my beloved ipod has got a crack in its screen.

It doesn't affect the output, but it sure looks ugly. Is there any way I can obtain a replacement screen? Or would I be as well to think about a replacement ipod? (and I feel bizarre writing this, as the appearance of things has never mattered much to me, but I find I do value an unblemished ipod).

Dearie me. I suspect that even if you could get a replacement screen, replacing the pod would be cheaper...

It's the latest version of the video ipod, with a touch screen instead of the circular fingerpad thing.  It has wifi as well as the usual ipod bells and whistles - but what excites me most about it is that when you swipe your finger down a list (of tracks, addresses, whatever), the list scrolls down at the velocity your finger went - and then slows down as if by friction, bouncing slightly before it stops!

(I know, I'm shallow)

Having a 30g ipod was great, until it sort of stuck in so far as if I connect it to my computer it will be wiped.... again!!
So I now use it as a sort of cd player (in speakers) by the computer , it has such a lot on it and is a pleasure there!

I have however bought a nano 8g and use that for my moving around listening , and games... I absolutely love it, it is small and reasonably cheap. I bought my feller one and he  loves it too.. so , give it a try!!!

Getting rather poor sound on the earphones that came with the iPod - bass sounds a bit crunchy.  I say it's a fault with the 'phones, as the sound is fine when I try it with proper Sennheiser 'phones.

Can anyone recommend me some good (and preferably not too expensive) replacement iPod earphones?

Thanks.

SK, as you're already a Sennheiser user, you might want to consider these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-PX-200-Headphones/dp/B00009QH7Q/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1209421182&sr=8-17

They fold up nicely, are closed-back, and are much better quality and longer lasting than the ear-bud type. Worth the extra few quid, I'd say. I've had mine for three or four years now, and they still work excellently. They're also handy for use with a laptop.

A friend I trust implicitly also recommends the PX200s.

I use and can recommend these:

http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headphones/19557/Sennheiser+CX300+Black.htm

They're in-ear so not necessarily for all occasions - for example if you're walking along you can hear the air whooshing against them; you also might not want to eat while using them because that's a damn weird feeling. But in my experience they're up to the challenge of getting the music in while keeping the noise out.

I run four sets of Sennheisers for various occasions, and the PX200s are very much part of my tool-kit. (Or did Ollie know that already?)

I like PX200s but I find them a little uncomfortable for long periods. With the iPod I use CX300s. I don't generally listen to music while I'm walking along anyway, and wearing any headphones at all while eating is not only unpleasantly noisy but was emphatically discouraged as a breach of etiquette at my finishing school.
