A legendary Decca name, from the early days of stereo.

His recording of 'Butterfly' (with Tebaldi and Bergonzi, Serafin conducting) still sounds astonishingly vivid today.  Smiley

An almost unknown name responsible for the technique behind many of the greatest recordings of the second half of the 20th century, tinners: the Britten Peter Grimes (and all subsequent BB Decca recordings), the Solti/Culshaw Ring and a whole raft of 'Sonicstage' releases thereafter, the Lyritas and even those Previns and Gerhardts recorded for RCA and Readers' Digest by Decca all used the 'tree' mic formation, largely eschewing the multi 'spot' mic formations used by other companies, and to this day command prices amongst the highest for second-hand vinyl.

Thanks for posting that.

Thanks for posting that.
You're welcome, Ron.

The link was actually sent to me by Mr Now Senior, who I doubt knows the Britten or Wagner recordings but has a range of technical knowledge and interests of which I'm often reminded by the present company Mr Dough.

Better not tell him that! Wink He's not quite retirement age yet - another couple of years to go.
