Hi,

I have purchased an Apple TV unit and I want to connect it to my CD/DAC unit, and playback lossless files. I currently connect the Apple to my Amplifier by RCA phone cables. The sound it just ok.

I am wondering if a better solution is to connect my Apple to my CD/DAC. I am very pleased with sound output from my CD Player unit, but it only has the Coaxial connection, where as the Apple TV has only an optical connection.

Would this do the trick? Will it be stable? Am I wasting my time?

or should I just go out and but another DAC

Many thanks in advance

Hi Peter,

I'm going out on a limb on this one, because I have no experience of the product itself, but I'd guess that it might be a worthwhile move. I'm basing it on two considerations: firstly, the manufacturers themselves who have hardly ever put a foot wrong in the production of audio equipment, and secondly the though that the cost of the electronics concerned in the item, even allowing for manufacturer's mark-ups, would be of the order of the C/O converters used in serious HiFi product, way above those used in most domestic equipment.

The only set-back will lie in the use of optical cable, which is generally held to be less satisfactory than coaxial: a wee bit of experimentation might be necessary here. I'd say go for it, and be prepared to play around with ancillaries: even if it's not the final answer to this problem, it's likely to be a useful bit of kit to have around for the future.

Hi Ron,

Many thanks for your input. I will go for it. If it doesn't work ... at least I have a copy of Pro tools

Best regards

Hi Ron,

It arrived today and it works a treat Smiley

Lossless files  on the Apple TV sound fantastic.

Mp3 and other files sound good. I am really tempted to buy one of those Studio Master albums from Linn Records now.

Many thanks again
