These new active speakers from AVI look just the job for a fuss free PC or Mac based music system. As they incorporate a DAC, you can simply take the digital audio from your PC (or Mac, or iPod), straight into the speakers. I haven't heard them yet, but will try to do so soon, not least as I seem to be accumulating so much music on my hard drive that I need to do something to listen to it properly - and then possibly sell the main audio system! My only concern is that speaker cabinet vibration could introduce unwanted resonance into the DAC & amps, but only a proper listening session will tell. Hopefully we'll see similar products emerge as there seems to be general acceptance that hard disc based music systems are probably going to be soon the main source for music replay.
