I always loved Domenico Scartatti music. Today there was a feast for me, plus a few pieces by composers I don't know.
The pieces were performed by Carole Cerasi.
I never played harpsichord and I don't know much about playing it. The world of pianists is far removed from harpsichord. Yet there are similarities. The loss of pedals would be hard for me to take. I love right (and left) pedals on the piano.
I was glad to hear D Scarlatti/ part of two oratoria.

In another lifetime (sort of) I was laying down (half)-listening to a tape of harpsichord music while dozing, and it occurred to me that the harpsichord sounds a lot like an organ to the inattentive ear.

I found it interesting in a program that they said Dominico Scarlatti' father was domineering person. I did not know they had information about it. Relations in the family were not simple.
I like to know all little bits of information available.
Kitty, May be harpsichords can sound like organs a little, but only when recorded. In life performance they are so soft.

BTW, did you know there were "pedal harpsichords" - which had pedalboards like organs?  I used to have some old lps of Lionel Rogg playing Buxtehude on such an instrument.  I guess the "terraced dynamics" of the harpsichord are similar to the organ, and the necessity to use articulation to achieve the "impression" of dynamic variety is another common factor.

I once played a harpsichord which had five or six pedals along the base, but they were for changing the registration! I haven't seen another like it.

Articulation in harpsichord playing seems to be of great importance, particularly in imitative music where the entries are not easily heard (because all notes are the same volume). This is the main way of getting them to be noticed.

Thank you for interesting discussion. Articulation is very important for piano, but even more so for harpsichord.
When Carole Cerasi was playing I could hear intonations so well. I love harpsichord very much.
