I get that too - I've always assumed it was an intentional (if frustrating) feature of the board.

Click on your own name and you get your profile (if you are logged in).  Click on anyone elses and you can't see their profile (quite rightly, if they have their e-mail details there and don't want to share them.....)

I guess we need a feature that is 'Show all posts by this member'.

Anyone know where it is (apart from doing search for 'thompson1780', which woudl get more than just my postings)?

ah - i've just discovered a slightly more helpful search facilty by clicking on the magnifying glass next to the 'search' box at the top of the page.

Hi tony,

admin Michael removed this access when we had a 'changing-avatars problem' which had made several more people paranoid. So the paranoia is now just reserved for folks searching for other folks messages  Wink

You are right about the 'magnifying glass' search, very useful. Instead of the symbol it would be better if it just had a button that said 'Advanced Search'

Thanks for the explanation, John.  Smiley

Such a thing would be handy. I've tried using the magnifying glass advanced search thingy before now, but you still need to enter a search term as well as the user name, so it's not much good for this purpose.

I think it is worth re-opening the question whether we want the profiles hidden as they are at present (but weren't to begin with).

The paranoia about hackers was proved to be unfounded, and there isn't any very good reason not to have a public profile. Members can choose not to have any private details show, e.g. e-mail addresses and birthdays.

All of that sensitive stuff can be hidden. So ought we to have a poll perhaps as to whether we all feel that it would be nice to be able to click on someone and see who they are and what they've written?

I'd vote yes.

Cathythinks,

There is now a poll based on your question in the Announcements section.
