Am I to suppose that cleaning the house/flat is classed as a recreational activity?

Not at all  Smiley

I work a lot from home.... sorry I'll rephrase that..... a lot of the work that I do is done at home  Cheesy

So, my missus expects me to be doing a lot of the cleaning and tidying  Shocked

It's not me who makes the mess and untidyness but it's me who sits in it more than the others in the family so I'm in a better position to do the tidying.....

The point about the slow site here sometimes, is that one should regard that as an opportunity to do something else, bit like multi-tasking. Like filling the washing up bowl with hot water, while the dishes are soaking you can pick up all the newspapers and shoes that are lying around, put them away, empty the kitchen pedal bin, water the plants, put a CD on, iron a shirt..... I need to get out more  Roll Eyes

Hmmmmmm. So are you suggesting we should actually welcome the slowness of the site?  Huh

I wish this MB would slow down so that I could do something useful, like wash the car.

Yes, the problem with this MB is not that it's too slow, actually it's not slow enough!  Grin

Just like to say that I don't have any major problems with speed of pages loading, and I'm on dial-up last week, this week and next week. Sometimes my broadband (from ntl when I'm at home) can be quite inexplicably slow, but this board is fine atm.

I found the slowness really bad on Friday night and gave up a few times and came back later.

I checked in at the Admin Forum but I don't understand any of the advice in discussions about slow loading, too techie  Sad

I've PM'd Michael about the problem as I recall he has looked into this before.

I've been asked if the real slowness on here began when I introduced images onto the board titles. I started loading these on 4th April but I think episodes of real slowness started before then, like last weekend around 1st April.

I'll take the images off after Easter, when the host's systems might be working normally, and we'll see if that makes a difference.

Yesterday it took some four minutes to log on.  I then typed a "reply" but couldn't preview it or post it.   I logged off and got on later with only a short delay.  Today I have had the greatest difficulty in logging on not only this afternoon but also this morning.  For this present visit there was only a short delay.  Could it be the large number of pictures on the site that are slowing things down?  Not all of them are from the "bucket"

Hi Soundwave. Yes. It does seem to be random.

I do monitor image sources (using quote function) on the Waffle thread and other big image users, and I'm satisfied that most posters seem to use only links to images which I believe won't slow down the opening of the pages. All the new navigation images I added are linked to the bucket.

NOTE: Waffle pages might take a while to open but that is due to the affect of big images on your own PC processor and isn't the same symptom that we see with the homepage or reply pages. I hope we can be patient till after the Easter break when we may see normal service resumed. If not then I'll remove the navigation images.

John

I doubt if it is anything to do with your topic images. Surely if that was the case it would always be slow. But the problem is definitely intermittant. At the time of this post performance is perfect. Two or three hours ago it was unusable. Maintenance by the host / server still looks most likely, I guess it works to US time ?
