To all of those who are on the look out of 'unknown' British Symphonies....

The new release of Arnell's Second Symphony and Piano Concerto on Dutton Epoch is magnificent! I had high hopes after the same label's release of the 3rd symphony last year and was not disappointed in the slightest!

If you like the symphonies of, say Alwyn, Nielsen (some surprising parallels!) or possibly Bax why not give it a whirl! There is so much atmosphere and a great feeling of an epic journey taking place.

Marvellous stuff.

I've not heard Arnell's work either, I read elsewhere that he wrote a symphonic poem Lord Byron !

Re Arnell - tks for the tip Tapiola - will try and check out - wonder how many other composers are lying around undiscovered - talking of Bax all his symphonies played on afternoon performance this week - not to be missed  Cool
