Not sure where to post this topic but since they played a snippet of Uri Caine on CD Review on Saturday, it may as well be here. I'm posting from a fairly uninformed standpoint since I've only heard a few three or four minute clips over the years on CDR or In Tune and read a few reviews. I also know that these snippets then used to provoke predictable "what was that row" type posts on the old boards. But I wondered if there is any real musical merit or is it just a bit of amusement ? He seems to have been ploughing this furrow for some time now, so I presume he has a serious intent. Do the classical reworkings have a similar feel to his jazz work ? Does he still do jazz ?

Have just seen you post BobbyZ. I cannot pass any useful comment of the merits of UC's work but I do enjoy it very much. There is CD of his "arrangement" of 'Dicherliebe' on Winter and Winter which,in places, gets to the raw heart of Schumann's work. I have also attended a concert of his version of Bach's 'Goldberg' and whatever your views on his music there is no doubt he is a serious artist. The only jazz fan I have spoken to about Caine's work told me he was not a jazz musician but then that chap hates the Modern Jazz Quartet. Incidently the Schumann Cd includes a straight version of his Piano Quartet Op 47 which received a good review on BaL although the movements are split thorough out 'Dicherliebe'!
