Came across this some time ago:
http://www.cmc.ie/shop/shop_by_title.cfm

If you do a page search for Contemporary Music from Ireland, there are 5 free CDs available - mind you if you get greedy and order all of them (like I did Roll Eyes ) it'll cost you about €10 in postage/packing.

Volume One is no longer available - fortunately I won a copy in a magazine competition. Which makes you wonder what sort of magazine gives free CDs as prizes...

I think I got vol. 3 in the post one year when I was involved with some college music society (well, in their mailbox, but blah blah blah it's mine now ).

I've seen secondhand shops selling free CDs (not these ones though) - £10 to you, sir!

There are a some nice things on those CMC discs (I've just reviewed the most recent one for spnm). They can be a bit patchy - they're trying to cover all ages and styles of Irish composers - but I've found plenty to like in there.

Yep, our local Oxfam has a number of ex-magazine CDs, clearly marked Not For Resale, on sale. Mind you, they are generally only a couple of quid and it is for charity. And I occasionally see a BBC Music Magazine CD I've missed. Smiley

The CMC disks are bound to be a bit patchy and do suffer from the movement ripped from a complete piece problem. They also have quite a high proportion of not really Irish, just living and working in Ireland composers; including Kevin Volens on one of the earlier disks. Still worth having though, IMO.

I think Kevin Volans counts as adopted Irish, doesn't he? He's been living and working there for 20 years or so and has had a significant working relationship with at least one other Irish composer, Gerald Barry.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley
