Quite an intriguing selection of upcoming things according to the MDT prerelease list:

- a new recording of Biber's least-recorded collection of string ensemble music, Fidicinium sacro-profanum, which I shall waste no time in acquiring

- the first release in JEG's Brahms symphony cycle, which has to be worth hearing I think

- a rerelease of HvK's Bruckner symphonies, which I remember (the ones I heard) being rather good

- a new recording of Glass's Music in 12 Parts, though I dare say they'll be using electronic keyboards instead of the electric organs which made the 1970s recording of Parts 1 & 2 so attractive, to me anyway

- Gérard Grisey's Temps de l'écume, a work of his I've never heard; everything by Grisey is worth getting to know I think

- as announced in another thread, Messiaen's Chronochromie in the Dorati recording, combined with the Quatuor by Gervase de Peyer et al

- what I dare say is a very strange "computer realisation" of Xenakis' music for solo keyboard by one Daniel Grossman, with all the impossible polyrhythms perfectly realised and all the impossible notes played. I'm inclined to regard this as a foolhardy exercise, given that Xenakis was quite capable of writing computer music when he wanted to, and used an entirely different approach when he did so to that taken in his instrumental music, whose impossibilities are somehow part of the whole point of the music. Nevertheless I shall have to hear it

Yes, Richard, September looks like a good month. These re-releases also caught my eye:

- Josquin's Missa Pange lingua with Ensemble Organum and Ensemble Clement Janequin
- Petrucci Harmonice Musices - works by Obrecht, Isaac and Josquin Desprez performed by Fretwork
- Beethoven's 'Eroica' Symphony performed by Enemble 28 and Grossmann, which I've been meaning to investigate for ages.

Richard, on the Virgin release of Music in 12 Parts, Parts 1 through 6 were from the 1975 sessions from which the 'original; issue of Parts 1 & 2 were taken. Parts 7 through 12 were from 1987 sessions. I have no information on the keyboard instruments used in 1987.

For bargain hunters, HMV are offering a lower pre-order price for this new release of a 2006 'live' performance of the whole work on 4 CDs:

Ouch. An expensive looking month ahead!

I see Vol.6 of Ronald Brautigam's Beethoven Sonata cycle is being released in September.

The performances of Billy Budd led by Daniel Harding at the Barbican presumably form the basis of a new release. Nathan Gunn as Budd. I seem to recall Ruth telling me this was very good, esp Gidon Saks as Claggart.

I recommend Zinman's Mahler 5 which finally gets its UK release (I've had mine for months now!)

Haitink's CSO Shostakovich 4 is already in the shopping basket, as is the Hallé Dream of Gerontius which gets a rush release after their July performances.

The DVD about Peter Warlock, Some Little Joy, which I mentioned on another thread a few weeks ago, also appears.

Now, where's that itchy credit card?  Embarrassed

Well I have: they were cheap rubbish, or expensive rubbish made to sound cheap.  Angry
