Elsewhere I've posted details of a Come and Sing Faure Requiem which I went to last Saturday.  The score used was Rutter's edition of the 1893 version, which employs a chamber-size orchestra.

I'd like to acquire a CD of this and note the availability on Amazon of Rutter's own 1997 account on Collegium Records.  This looks very promising but before committing myself I'd like to ask if anyone knows of any other recordings.

Ian, I do enjoy many of the 'full orchestral'  versions - I have the recordings by Willcocks/Kings and Andrew Davis/Ambrosian Singers (and the Tortelier and Dutoit recordings have been well received, if I remember correctly). I've heard a few other recordings, too.

However, I always come back to the 1985 Rutter on Collegium (Rutter's version of the 1893 chamber-scaled score).  I assume that the '1997 account' you mention is just a re-issue of the original (I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong). There is something about it that makes it my 'desert island' choice.  I lent my copy out and it was returned damaged.  I think I'll buy another copy!

Ian,

Thanks for the thread on the Faure Requiem.  I've just ordered a replacement Rutter from HMV online (£9.99).

I love this Requiem. It is like going home, so beautiful. It is different approach than other Requiems.
