The first (I think - the recent live BBC/Opera Rara issue excepted) recording of the original French version of the work from Abbado at La Scala with Domingo in the title role.

I will be honest, this set does not rank among the top recommendations (the non-French singers sound a little odd), hence the sale. However, Abbado is a fine Verdian and orchestrally the set has many plus points.

The reading of the score is pretty complete (spread over four discs with some portions are consigned to the appendix, annoyingly the wonderful choral opening being one such). To get around this I re-edited it into a full version and burnt it onto separate CDs (these will also be enclosed).

Full libretto (including quite detailed notes in terms of programming the tracks for different versions).

I'm thinking around £15 but will consider all offers.

regards, Tam
