Hi Smittims,

Yes, the major difference between the final version of the Faust and the earlier version is the lack of a choral ending but Liszt was in the the habit of tinkering with details (not just in the orchestral works!) so there are a myriad of little alterations as well.  For example, I remember in Walker's biography it says that as late as 1880, Liszt removed some bars from 'Gretchen' from the Faust Symphony, even though the work had been published years before.

I am unsure as to the extent that the original version was followed for Noseada's recording, or whether he just followed the ending only.  I'm afraid that I don't actually have the score of the later version, let alone the original (which I suspect may not have been printed once the later version was published.)
