Organ music doesn't get much airtime these days but I would like to recommend a very fine disc of Franck played on the Goll organ of St Martin, Memmingen. It's a superb modern instrument and the acoustic of St Martin strikes me as being ideal for this music. There is plenty of warmth and not too much reverberation to muddy the textures. This is just Volume 1 in a series from Audite, played by Hans-Eberhard Ross, and it has made me hear these pieces with new ears. Indispensable if you enjoy this repertoire; equally so if you like good recordings. I think it would be a perfect instrument for Messiaen's organ works, as it sounds quite luminous at times.
