Must check out that Grisey. The Murail piece is one of a relatively small handful of pieces of his I know, and I think it's pretty darned impressive too. Time to hit the itchy credit card...   Wink

Gérard Grisey: L'Icône paradoxale (Hommage à Piero della Francesca) for 2 female voices and large orchestra (divided into 2 groups) - now spinning, since I'm not going to manage to hear it live this evening in Warsaw.

Fantastic, stunning. If this isn't a masterpiece I don't know what is.

Damn, looks like you're about to cost me some money: how can I possibly resist with an accolade such as that?

Is that only available on the "Paris Compositions" CD?

Yes. (Well tracked down, by the way!) It's a very oddly programmed CD indeed.

Martle, if checking it out on Amazon.UK, be careful. It appears twice, at very different prices. I suggest you try here.

Bryn, if only you'd been a bit quicker (or I a bit slower!)  Sad

But Bryn's link is the same as mine, Stuart ...

Stuart, it is probably not too late to cancel your current order, and then go for the less expensive option. I have not checked Amazon.fr and Amazon.de this time, but it is often worth the effort. In one recent instance I saved nearly half the cost (including p&p) by switching an order from Amazon.de to Amazon.fr, despite the fact that in each case the Marketplace supplier concerned was Caiman.

t_i_n, there is also this, which is the problem. Plus, I linked straight to the Marketplace options, rather than the straight Amazon page itself. Wink

I nearly did likewise, Bryn, but then I thought people might want to see the track listing first, and I assumed no one would go for the £16.49 price anyway!

Stuart, I'll buy you £3.69 worth of beer some time, minus whatever you think my recommendation's worth (which may even be a negative figure, if you really hate the piece!!). How's that for a deal? Wink Wink

Cheers, folks! I cleverly found the special more-expensive deal by searching myself and ignoring both of your helpful links. I'll try and change the order Bryn (it was  Caiman)

Otherwise I'll try and work out the implications of t_i_n's offer!  Wink

£3.69, stuart. What's to work out? In London, that's one pint and 20p for the loos at Victoria on the way home, isn't it?  Cry

Pleased to say that my number of recordings of Birtwistle's Tragoedia has increased by infinity percent, thanks to the generosity of a Member. The disc arrived today and is now spinning.

I find the horn writing unforgettable and newsworthy. I also like that the title means 'goat-dance.'

Great piece CD; and if you like that, you'll love Punch and Judy, for which it was a study. If you don't know it already.
