Now spinning in the airport: Karlowicz's violin concerto: perfectly delightful!

That's the coolest cover I've seen for some time, Bryn!

I'll try and get a better shot of it some time, martle. The details lend even greater 'coolness' to it, like the "Wurlitzer" legend on the badge above the tractor unit's radiator. Wayward does not even start to describe the interpretation of Beethoven's music by that team.

Ah, Bryn, that cover brings back some memories! Is Beethoven really wearing a prototype iPod?

Ah, Bryn, that cover brings back some memories! Is Beethoven really wearing a prototype iPod? No he isn't, opilec. It's a hearing aid, of course. Now, not spinning yet, but when I got home from work this evening there were two little packages awaiting me, both from HMV. One contained the Brilliant Classics re-issue of the Signum complete Tallis, and the other was the newish Wergo Nancarrow/Arditti CD. Now which do I spin first? (I missed the start of tonight's War and Peace, and don't want to join it late. Forgot to set the scheduler, too. )

Can't help you with that teaser, Bryn, but notice that the Tallis box is now on special offer at MDT: http://www.mdt.co.uk/MDTSite/product/SO_Brilliant/93612.htm... so it might be spinning here as well before too long. Right now, having not been able to get to the ROH for it, this: Barbro Ericson's Kundry is a bit too matronly for my liking ... but otherwise not a bad little set at all.

Well, the Nancarow won out. I paid £21.99 for the Tallis set (including p&p) so how much of an offer the MDT one is rather depends what they charge for sending it. I doubt there will be that much in it though.

The most recent Kuijken cantata box ('Geist und Seele wird verwirret') is for me by far the best so far. I was getting worried about Christoph Genz and have been very glad to see that Jan Kobow is now doing the tenor parts; some of Gerlinde Sämann's singing is also quite extraordinary on vol. 5. (One aria in particular, I think it's 'Liebster Gott, erbarme dich' but I don't have it handy...)

I just love that double chorus with the 'clanking arms and neighing steeds' - rousing stuff!

Bach: Harpsichord concertos (at this precise moment, BWV 1057 -- the one with two recorders) -- Rousset/AAM/Hogwood. This has always seemed to me to be one of the best things the Academy did with Hogwood: musically richer and more mature than many of the earlier recordings.
