Did anyone catch the end of Afternoon on 3 today, around 4pm? There was a Mag and Nunc setting, choir and orchestra, in English, not listed in Radio Times or the BBC website.

WHO COMPOSED IT?  Huh

If what you are thinking of, is what I am thinking of, it was James Macmillan.

If it isn't, it wasn't. Grin

James MacMillan, rm: originally composed separately for choir and organ, commissioned by Wells and Winchester respectively, IIRC.

If I'm bored tomorrow, might LA to it.
Thanks for pointing it out.

I agree with roslynmuse.  Orchestral writing much better.

If you LA, make sure you also LA to the macmillan in Wednesday's Ao3.

Was rather good

It's interesting that the orchestral writing seemed to gain by being a fleshing-out of the organ parts, as if the original constraint had set him looking in slightly different directions than usual. He can write wonderfully for voices though: does anybody else know the extraordinary 16-part Mhairi? It's a long time since a choral piece has made such an impression on me as that did when I first heard it (and subsequent performances): stunning, virtuosic and right.
