Maybe we should start a "Don't Buy This" thread.

Good idea, Richard.

Most of my CD collection will be transferred to this thread over the coming weeks..... Wink Sad

Well, that's one way of ridding oneself of unwanted goods, I suppose...

Anyway, as long as no one includes any of mine in here, that'll be OK...

I'm almost ashamed to say I did, buy this, I mean. It's one long cringe from beginning to end. Why did I buy it? Because I cling to the very old instinct that, underneath it all, there's an interesting musician inside Sting trying to get out. But if there is, he doesn't even make it to first base on this album.

I see we've got off to an excellent start here.

Has anyone else heard this?

Depths are plumbed. Guest stars include Hayley Westenra, Lang Lang and (be afraid) Karl Jenkins.

I've heard it and it certainly is, though of course Ron Carter has done wonderful things in other contexts.

Here's another one.

No need to advise anyone against buying it though, it never came out on CD as far as I know.

Tis indeed Marty, even the charity shop didn't want it back!!   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Indeed richard, I think Ron Carter is quite wonderful but this is unfortunately an abject failure.

I am not saying these are bad cds, au contraire.

However, not to my taste.  So before they go off to the charity shop on offer are John Wolf Brennan, Pictures in a Gallery (solo piano) and Ralph Towner, Time Line (guitar) ECM Label and  Romance Among the Fishes, Liam Noble.

I await to be underwhelmed by members awanting these.

I picked up the CD/DVD double-pack The Journey and the Labyrinth for £4 from the stall at our concert society, martle.  Despite the fact that it was a recent release on a major label it had gone straight into the £2 a disc bargain box.  The CD is very short, which turned out to be a blessing; but the listener is subjected to Message in a Bottle with lute accompaniment and more-than-usually strangulated vocals - which is something you didn't have to put up with!  I haven't yet looked at the DVD.

Well, even though you didn't exactly start it, you did encourage it! So what less would Lord Abertawe be expected to expect?...

Has anyone else heard this?

I have - most fortunately, I imagine - not heard it, but your statement that "depths are plumbed", when taken with "Guest stars include Hayley Westenra, Lang Lang and (be afraid) Karl Jenkins", seems somehow to convey its own unique tautology. Remember the egregious Igor's mal mot "if Richard, then Wagner - if Strauss, then Johann"? (to which my immediate retort was "if Igor, then Prince")?; well, if Spharenklange, then Johann Strauss II, surely? (not that I pretend to be any kind of expert in that "field" or any similar one that might be even "old"er - indeed, if Oldfield, then Bruce, perhaps)...
