I love this piece! But, I have only ever found a score of the orchestral sections. Does anyone know of the existence of a score which also includes the choral sections? Or a piano reduction of those passages? I have tried most of the usual suspects...

I have certainly seen ,and I think, borrowed a full score of the complete version, and I think it was in the Henry Watson Library in Manchester inthe 1970s.

I adore this work and regard it as one of the  most underrated pieces of music ever. It cries out for a really wonderful new recording. One think I like about Franck is that his endings are so effective, in contrast to,say ,Jack Moeran, who was terrible at ending a work.

Thanks, Smittims; the Henry Watson score omits the choral sections, unfortunately...

There was a broadcast in the early 90's - unbelievably, the first UK performance of the complete work! - by Matthias Bamert and the CBSO and chorus which came closer than any other to catching the aching beauty of much of the score. So much depends on imaginative string sounds here...

I definitely saw a complete score, with the choral sections. It was in an old crimson false-leather binding about 30cm square or 35cm tall. If it wasn't the Henry Watson I can't think where it was. But it was in the '70s as I remember listening to my Supraphon LP of the work wth the score.

Maybe they have disposed of it,awful to think of, I know, but sadly libraries do sometimes dispose of old scores on the appalling supposition that they are unused or out of date, etc.

I think there is a 2 piano version of some of Psyche - obviously this would not include the choral sections.

(Talking of Franck, my Le Chasseur Maudit solo piano transcription is now more than half done thanks to my holiday last week!)

Back to work now...

Jean Fournet was the conductor of the best perfromance 'Psyche' I have heard,on the old Supraphon LP with the Prague Symphony Orchestsra.
