I caught some of the Burnside programme yesterday, didn't listen too closely as we were doing various things in the house, enjoyed some of the music though some was tired old 'joke' music for April 1st. Loved the Dudley Moore which I viewed also on Youtube a week or so ago from link posted here I believe.

Anyway what I also do recall was Burnside reading out an e-mail from someone denigrating in the usual cowpat manner British music of the 20th century. I didn't catch much, I think Bax was mentioned or we'd just heard a piece of Bax music, I don't have time to use Listen Again, but anyway I was disappointed to hear this mail read out and wonder if anyone else was. It didn't sound like an April fool message at all. I suspect Burnside is trying to stir up some on-line discussion which he can quote from next week.

If anyone knows the approx. time in the Burnside Listen Again let me know so I can check this out again. All British music fans should respond to this by bombarding Burnside's e-mail or posting on his R2MB messageboard (I see a couple of people have done so).

hi John W - Like you say think Ian Burnside read out that over the top e-mail just to try and get a response - think quite few e-mailers and also people on r3 msgeboard deliberately say something controversial just to get lots of replies - think quite a few sad people around who have nothing better to do than trash great composers - best idea is not to respond  Undecided

For me the Burnside programme is disappointing; I don't know where such a programme should be, but it doesn't sit well on R3. I'd rather just hear the music with some intelligent announcements. If I want chat I can get it elsewhere. It's a bit like turning an art gallery into a bustling cafe where you have no hope of concentrating on a personal response to the works because of the aimless drivel in the background.  Tongue

But my wife quite likes it, so there you go.  Sad

I agree with offbeat.Don't play Burnside's game by joining in the argument and being held up as a circus animal.Anyone who cannot enjoy Bax deserves pity, not the flattery of being noticed ortaken seriously. .
