Sorry to be so predicatable Tam.  I just find Jansons doesnt draw me in to Mahlers world at all.  Some people have that problem with Haitink.

I did interrupt my sunbathing this afternoon to come in and record LLyr Williams early afternoon piano recital.  There is another artist I love to hate (hate is actually far too strong a word).

But I'm giving him another go.

No need to apologise. I'm hardly one to talk when it comes to predictability. Speaking of which, I believe Mackerras is currently recording Cosi.

Ah, Williams. I don't get on at all with him. Actually, I committed something of a faux pas recently as I was chatting to someone at a wedding not too long ago who was involved in King's Lynn's art festival and wasn't overly kind about him - it turned out she was, indeed he had been a house guest with her when he played there.

That said, several people I know who were similarly unimpressed when they heard him do the Schubert D960 heard him play the hammerklavier about a year ago and liked it very much. They suggested it helps not to be able to see his face (his chewing habit can be rather off-putting).

DO BBC Legends bring out discs of artists still alive ??  Just think how many Sir Charles recordings they have in their vaults !

...which makes we wonder about the LSO and Gergiev/ Harding. LPO/Jurowski seems to bode well-but rather than go off topic I'd like to ask Pim what he knows about Dutch orchestra's conductor hiring arrangements-are they
traditionally Germanic or player-led like the LSO? And who might they pick realistically?
