i rent lots from lovefilm, great for finding stuff by famous composers or about such composers, and good for those rare operas, like thais etc. etc.

Me too.  Rental shops just didn't go away from the middle of the road enough for my tastes, so now I just rent things, watch them, decide if I'll want to watch them again and, if so, buy a copy.  It saves me a small fortune.
