Well...it was 1935

BBC 2 are showing a repeat of the 2004 'Simon Gray's Smoking Diaries' tonight, 23.20 hrs, as a tribute to the writer.   He produced 3 volumes in the series - the last volume published a few months ago - and the lively prose of this irascible personality is likely to remain in-print for a long time to come.   I'd certainly give them pride of place alongside, say, James Agate's 'Ego' biographies and he had the good luck to reach Volume 9.   A lucky number for composers, too.
