On the occassion of the 120th anniversary of the RCO:
"Starting on October the 15th you will be able to download a free
recording of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra every day. The
recordings are available until the 24th of November 2008."
Download no. 1:
Franz Schubert - Symphony no. 8 'Unfinished'
Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Nikolaus Hamoncourt
(recorded in 1997).
320 kbps MP3
http://kco.radio4.nl/?lang=en

There is registration required, but the recordings are unique!

Enjoy!

Hi,

I must be doing something wrong here ....

On a mac ... I can only get it to play and not download and save
and on a PC ... I only get a 64kByte file, even though the prompt said it was over 64MB

Well, after going through the fairly painless registration procedure, the Unfinished finished downloading to this XP OSed Laptop PC in a matter of a couple of minutes. It plays just fine too. I hope you left-clicked on the download, rather than right-clicking and choosing to save the html file. Wink

Many thanks.

I was using firefox, but I have it now Smiley Added artwork, and playing via my AppleTV. Love the live recording.

On a pc, I can only get it to play - there's no option to save the file that I can find!

Keep trying, chap: it should let you in eventually, though you may have to go backwards and forwards a few times and try both right and left clicks before it comes up with the required screen.... Wink

I tried using a different browser, Ron - Safari - and downloaded/saved it first time! Schubert 8 and Beethoven 2 (conducted by Jansons in 2004) safely downloaded.  Smiley

The website mentions what to do if your browser plays rather than downloads. Whatever browser you use, there should be somewhere to set what it does with an mp3 you click on ie play or download. In Firefox it's Options/Applications, I've got it set to always ask me which to do.

I listened to the Schubert yesterday through my hifi, playing it back on the laptop, sounded pretty good. Just downloaded the Beethoven.

It's a bit confusing that the Dutch classical station is called Radio 4! I'm listening to their 192 Kbps mp3 live Shoutcast stream at the moment.

Tomorrow's offering (17th) is Mendelssohn's 'Italian' Symphony under Kondrashin from November 1979.  Smiley
