Sir Paul McCartney has walked-away with the "best classical album" award at the Classical Brits, for his album "Ecce, Cor Meum".

Ruth Palmer and Anna Netrebko were amongst other award-winners.

I despair, I really do. Note that it was the only award voted for by the public.

Amidst all the fuss over Sting and Paul MacCartney, one could be forgiven for missing the lifetime achievement award for Vernon Handley - a thoroughly deserved award which adds a bit of dignity to what looks like a fairly self-seeking and tawdry affair.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Call me cynical, but was it a `sympathy` vote because Sir is having a hard time? Bah.

Let's not gripe, perhaps?... it's just an award night doing what it says on the tin.

Well, it could be worse - he could be taking over as controller of Radio 3...

Oh, what's that you're saying, Sooty?

Nice to see that Mozart's well-known work "La Cler" did so well. Actually if they mean "La Clemenza di Tito" that recording does seem deserving of something. Evidently you don't have to be British to win these?

I've just seen Paul McC getting his award, on News 24. I think he truly thinks he's writing "classical" music.

Didn't he write it on a computer? We can all do that now with Sibelius or Mozart software  Roll Eyes
