Where do you get the 'r' from in that? I get 'Sydney Gew' (also, shouldn't it end with 'one who detests Shostakovich'? A person can't be a detestation). Quite right Ian! No one seems yet actually to have suggested Кондра́шин, which we suppose given the extraordinary liberty of some of the transcriptions of Russian names we have encountered could at a pinch be rendered Cyril Contrashin not Kondrashin.
