Well, here we are in our unfamiliar new surroundings and it all seems rather pleasant. I shall continue to post over at the R3MB, but thought I'd kick off the popular Musical Connections game over here too.

Simple rules - anyone can set a question, most usually a quartet of composers and you have to spot the connection between them (you all know how it works, really). Sometimes extra composers are added to help solve extra-cunning puzzles!  Wink

So, what connects these four?

Mozart
Haydn
Clementi
Josef Strauss

No, it's a brilliant game! See the thread on the old board for plenty of examples of deviousness, thumb-screws and fiendish cunning.

Well blow me down! I didn't think anyone would get it so soon...in fact, I didn't think anyone would notice I was here for a couple of days!  Cheesy

No, opilec knows this well and has played the game at the 'other place'. It is indeed a joke, opi, and you've got the first three...just Strauss to go!!

The Strauss is a bit of a translational 'joke' in itself!

The first champagne on the new board for a correct quartet:

Haydn - String Quartet No.30 in E flat major ("Joke"), Op.33/2
Mozart – A Musical Joke
Clementi - The Black Joke
Josef Strauss – Jokey Polka

Hello, Dan!

This is a tricky one.
Is there a watery link?

Norgård – Symphony No. 4 Chinese Witch's Lake
Weill – Der Silbersee, or Silver Lake

Ives has certainly cropped up a few times. No lakes, ponds in this one tho. Smiley

Hi Dan

I like the look of this board and the range of emoticons in the photobucket link that is posted in the 'Announcements' section is good. It's also a relief to be able to write in bold, or italics or colour etc.  It's fun having an avatar too!!
