Looking through a Varese file yesterday, I discovered a concert programme from 1974 - an all-Varese concert put on by the London Music Digest at the Roundhouse. OK, it was a long time ago but given that it was a pretty special event, I would have thought that I would have retained an iota of memory.

A few weeks ago, I was told that I attended a Jorge Bolet concert some time in the past - don't remember that one either.

I find this curious and unnerving - especially as I (usually) have no difficulty recognising people I've not seen for 30 years or more.

"Look into my eyes. Deep into my eyes. You are feeling very sleepy. When you wake up you will forget you have ever been here. You have never seen me. There was no piano."

If it's any comfort, autosuggestion, I did come across documentary proof only very recently of an opera production that I went to but had completely forgotten. It's so embarrassing though that it's going to remain my little secret as to what it was and, even more embarrassingly, who was in it.

I can usually remember very clearly things I've been to (at least, I think I can, it may be an illusion) even from years ago. I seem in particular to have an encyclopaedic and totally unnecessary recollection of where I was sitting for every concert I've ever been to. Talk about being egocentric Sad.

I can remember every concert I've been to (153 of them), though from some of the early ones the impressions are very vague. When I've seen the same band on several successive dates, the memories are blurring together and I would now struggle to say what the differences between the concerts were  Undecided
