...to be able to wander back from the pub - alone on a Friday night  Cry - on a snowy night and to be able to log on here and still post when you don't feel like going to bed.

Anyway, I caught the Bartok 3rd Piano Concerto on R3 this evening and was amazed. What a really fascinating, beautiful work. More Rach and Prok than 1940s modern.  And all those awful, discordant piano pieces of his that I dislike so much? Hard to believe it was the same composer. But here isn't the place, I suppose. Perhaps I'll be able to comment over the weekend.

The Emperor suspected they were right. But he dared not stop and so on he walked, more proudly than ever. And his courtiers behind him held high the train... that wasn't there at all.

Well I believe it was actually written as a deliberately approachable work so that his wife would have something to play after he'd passed on. But still, I do think Simon should try this one out:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bart%C3%B3k-3-Piano-Concertos-B%C3%A9la/dp/B00006DIC3/sr=1-7/qid=1171099429/ref=sr_1_7/026-1375509-4135633?ie=UTF8&s=music

They're great performances and cost bugler-all. The other two concertos are certainly grittier but just as exhilarating. And I do think even Simon would go the 'slow' movement of the Second. (Most of it's pretty slow. But some of it is damn fast.)

But back on topic:  Embarrassed

How pleasant it is to be able to post on a weekend before I go to work. The Other Side doesn't open until 11.00 Köln time. So until now I've had to find other ways to waste my time on a weekend morning...  Wink

Good morning to you ollie, I agree, not to have to clock watch is a rare and new experience!!

Not good for the practising situation though I suspect  Lips sealed

SimonSaigt, I can not find that Bartok on listen again. I want to listen to that Bartok, though I heard the concerto not so long ago.
By the way, I am glad that you made it here. I like the site. You can post any time here.
