As a pedant I am disturbed, yes well you all know that don't you.......
As a pedant I am disturbed when I read the insert/cover of BBCMM CDs. They have always prided themselves to feature complete works, full length recordings, complete performances, and would often feature one of those phrases (each meaning the same thing) somewhere in the CD notes or on the front of the magazine. I have many gaps in my collection but maybe somewhere around 2005, Vol. 13, the publishers decided to settle for coupling TWO of the phrases
FULL LENGTH RECORDINGS - COMPLETE WORKS complete with that hyphen. Some time in 2006 Vol. 15 they appear to have decided to omit the hyphen so we see in the 'spine' of the CD case
FULL LENGTH RECORDINGS COMPLETE WORKS replacing the hyphen with a double space, and this practice still continues in Vol. 16. It does disturb me that I cannot work out the reasoning behind such behaviour.
There is another example of behaviour that I cannot understand. Traditionally LP sleeve notes would say .....
Orchestra conducted by Colin Davis say, or
Conductor: Colin Davis and BBCMM used this good manner in the early years. Then the front cover began to use for example
..... Orchestra/Osma Vanska, but
..conducted by on the back cover, around the time of Vol. 5, sorry it was Vol. V then, and by Vol. 10 even the / was being omitted. Now in Vol. 15 we have for example:
BBC PHILHARMONIC
Vassily Sinaisky
(conductor)
So many changes in 'format' disturbs me. Well, I have to do something while listeneing to the CDs
