Have you tried patching it up with some filler or plaster? In my experience that usually holds, and they won't get out for a good few weeks unless there's cheese nearby.

I was really quite startled. The business with the Dwarf Russian hamster was bad enough, but I really wasn't expecting such a fuss about the Bovril. Just when you think you know someone.
