I'm sure there was discussion somewhere, by t_i_n, of how some Portuguese-speakers use the word 'panties' to refer to underwear of the male variety.  I asked a Portuguese friend about this, to confirm, and she said she had never heard of this use before.  What's one to make of this?

A 'So why then does your heart leap in your chest when your door buzzer goes off at 3am? You think it is Her. She's decided she's made a mistake. When in fact it's probably just someone who's forgotten their keys, or can't be bothered to get them out. Or it's probably someone ringing bells and running away.'

B  'Hmmm. Are there any more scones?'

Why does there seem to be so much simmering away in the background here at the moment? Are these things just too constant, private, near, biting etc. for MLC&U, I wonder. And it's summer (supposedly).
