The little multi-coloured violas I've just planted have very sweet perky faces,

Gambas or Braccias?

Embarrassed for my appalling misuse of the Italian language Embarrassed

One senses yet another viola joke in the making. One probably should not, but one cannot help but do so nevertheless.

Best,

Alistair

Well, Tommo, if you have to ask that, you obviously haven't been in the Grumpy Old Rant room recently.

2- Precisely two of these statements are untrue.
3- Precisely three of these statements are untrue.
4- Precisely four of these statements are untrue.
5- Precisely five of these statements are untrue.
6- Precisely six of these statements are untrue.
7- Precisely seven of these statements are untrue.
8- Precisely eight of these statements are untrue.
9- Precisely nine of these statements are untrue.

If only he`d asked me about the catfish, I could have put him right. He`s always been stubborn though. God knows what he`s going to do with all those guppies though.

OK - well, just ONCE! And it's not really your conventionally accepted kind of viola joke anyway. At a recording session of a piece of mine, the recording engineer/producer spoke of Levine Andrade (who has himself probably told more viola jokes in any one day than most of us have heard in our entire lifetimes) as the best such joke he'd ever encountered, i.e. a viola player brimming with musical intelligence who could play in tune and beautifully all the time!

Best,

Alistair

I realise that it can seem rude to answer a question with a question, especially in this instance as I do not actually know the answer to yours, but I'll just have to take that risk on this occasion and ask which is correct - eight plus eight is fifteen or eight plus eight are fifteen? Just to be helpful, however, you can phone a friend or ask the membership of this forum, although you can't have two wrong answers taken away, otherwise that might mean that you would be left with six plus six (etc.)...

Best,

Alistair

Since only one of them is true, it must follow that 9 of them are untrue. The only statement that agrees with this seems to be 9. Perhaps, therefore, that one is true?

No 9 is true. I think it is more than 'perhaps' true. It is true.

Am I the only one, or do others feel that Bach's music can be quite contrapuntal at times?
