The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Half a loaf of bread is better than nothing -
Nothing is better than God -
Therefore half a loaf of bread is better than God.

Baz Tongue Tongue Tongue

For centuries, the cult of the Holy Half-Loaf kept its secrets close. In an unguarded moment on an obscure internet bulletin-board, one of the Seneschals revealed the central tenet of the Knights Baker, catapulting Robert Langdon into a new mystery as he searched for the Perfect Flour. Suddenly the time honored assertion that "Graded Grains make Finer Flour" took on a new, and far more immediate relevance.

We had one like that, only with a knurled knob to keep the spring in place.

I found out recently that Beethoven in fact wrote NINE symphonies, not the two we're normally told about!

The Third Symphony was apparently dedicated to the Duke of Wellington, but he ripped out the dedication page when he found out that Beethoven wasn't from New Zealand at all, but was Dutch. The Fifth sounds very boring as it is four notes played over and over again (yawn). The last symphony, the Ninth, is called the New World Symphony and was apparently mostly composed by Dvorak anyway!

So all in all it doesn't sound like we've missed much, but you'd think somebody would at least have made a recording of all nine symphonies so we could judge for ourselves.

It just has to be a drainpipe, so long as the rabbit still lives there.

Time for a milky drink.

Maybe not a glass of milk though.
