Just wanted to briefly open a little room in the Coffee Bar to say thanks to everyone who has offered congratulations on my viva result (and for all of the good wishes before the event).
It was a fairly harrowing experience and I'm not sure if any of us enjoyed the experience, but I've got my result (and a little bit of work to do in the next few months) and a lot of food for thought.
I've got 3-4 months for my corrections and (fingers crossed) will be graduating in July.

hh, I hope someone (your supervisor?) let you know that what are charmingly referred to as 'minor corrections' in these circumstances are absolutely par for the course, and in no way to be taken as any kind of slight. As an examiner of PhDs for the last 12 years or so, I can tell you that only TWO submissions that I have ever seen have got through without that particular proviso.
Examiners are offered a series of about 8 options, normally. They have to tick a box. The 'minor corrections' box is second down the list. (I won't tell you what the bottom box is...  Sad) You're in!

"The hero acts alone, without encouragement, relying solely on conviction and his own inner resources. Shame does not discourage him; neither does obloquy. Indifferent to approval, reputation, wealth, or love, he cherishes only his personal sense of honor, which he permits no one else to judge. ... Guided by an inner gyroscope, he pursues his vision single-mindedly, undiscouraged by rejections, defeat, or even the prospect of imminent death. Few men can comprehend such fortitude."

Man, that's some bad prose. Courtesy of one Wm. Manchester, A World Lit only by Fire

HH- may your inner gyroscope guide you to ever greater accomplishments!
