This is the site of the 12th century Kilgrimol monastery. It's very bleak and barren around here, especially in the winter. It's now a nature reserve but in those days, it was where wayward monks were sent as a punishment. The nature on there is amazing, all year round, of very hardy creatures that can withstand gale force winds and freezing temperatures. Having said that, in the summer there are wild orchids that manage to survive and lots of different types of lizard.

If you look to the left of the picture you will see in the distance - Blackpool Tower! It's several miles away but it's very flat around here. Not much in the way of hills anywhere. You can also see the top of a hangar at Blackpool airport.

And here's another Dudley, showing off his ears!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Looking across to the Gorms from the back road to Forfar: plenty of leaves still, but the peaks above the Glens are already pretty snowy:

I've just been away to the West Country for a few days to visit friends who'd set up a B&B in Devon. On Tuesday, we walked along the northernmost Cornwall coastline at Morwenstow - very windy indeed, but some sunshine amongst the glowering skies... Yesterday, a walk on Dartmoor, starting from Belstone Tor: It certainly blew away the cobwebs!

Love that one IGI! I can just just about smell the sea and hear the waves on the rocks. Brings back happy memories of time spent thereabouts.

We also went down to see 'Hawker's Hut', a mile from Morwenstow Church, where the Rev Robert Stephen Hawker sat writing poems and smoking opium, whilst gazing out at the Atlantic. Tennyson was a guest of his there, apparently. The hut was built from timber from shipwrecks and perches rather precariously on the cliff, and I wasn't too comfortable clambouring down there!

and I wasn't too comfortable clambouring down there! Must have been very difficult in your attire, IGI! I've enjoyed all the new pix, Milly, Baz, David, Ron and IGI. Oh, and Andy's too: Haven't Pixie's ears grown!
