after all, what is wrong with freedom of speech for all ?

i notice that on facebook you can put someone 'on block' so you can't get their messages or see their postings, so a kind of 'ignore' policy comes into place !

Oh no! Not another thread about moderating the boards. Most Mums know that husbands are the uncounted child, but a whole message board of fractious children? Why can't we all just play nicely?

There is nothing wrong at all with what you say Lord Byron - you are talking complete sense!

Even more to the point is your current signature which reads:

It's a pity Baz if you have decided to go. I will miss you on here. It has become something of a habit. Cry Cry

Baz,

Hope you come back.

My action 2 weeks ago was a knee-jerk action to try and prevent regular arguments on the same issues again and again, and allow people like yourself to continue to enjoy the forum. Things could have been allowed to settle down but it was not to be.

I could follow you, as BBCR3MB has returned to the type of messageboard I enjoy, but I'll see things through with Michael while I'm still an administrator.

Just as a matter of interest.. what does a moderator actually do? It seems odd to me that adults can't be allowed to just chat however 'violently' .. we are able , surely to behave in a way that other adults can cope with?

Or am I being naive here?

How can 3 people make one decision over the internet on whether or not they like or don't like how someone has expressed themselves?

That's really the point - it shouldn't be about whether they "like" it or not...  if an issue arises (which it doesn't in the hugest majority of cases) it's about whether a posting breaks simple rules that exist to make the board a space that welcomes all views equally.  For example, a couple of months ago now one new member arrived here and broke several rules simultaneously... (i) registered multiple accounts and used them to give the impression of being more than one person (ii) denied having done (i) when called on it (by me, in fact) (iii) posted personal attacks and insults aimed at other members of the board.  His rule-breaking messages were deleted and he got a warning not to do it again - however, he ignored the warning, and thus got banned.

The moderator is the "ref" - he's there to see everyone gets a good game and plays within the rules.  He doesn't make the rules - he just enforces them if a situation arises.

Thanks Reiner,

I was probably being too simplistic here !!

You can always hope that we 'like each other enough' to be nice !! Wink
