for about the last three years i have been reading, and in the case of G H Mead William James, revisiting, the work of the pragmatists and other secondary texts including the lovely book 'The Metaphysical Club'. ( http://www.complete-review.com/reviews/divphil/menandl.htm )

Roberto Unger a brazilian legal theorist who teaches at Harvard has recently published a new volume 'The Self Awakened'; the text of which is available as a word document at the link below. The subtitle is 'Pragmatism Unbound'.

i am used to reading Mead Dewey and James with mouth agape, as i re/discover their genius and thoughts; i often marvel that such insights have lain fallow for me for so many years, or been only dimly lit in the work of lesser thinkers. with Mr Unger i must confess to a breathless devouring of his pages; no air flows through the struck mouth. i am unsure about what he writes, it may take a few more passes till i get it and check it, but i have seldom read such masterful prose and grasp. very interested to hear of any one else's views of this man and his work.

god bless the new york review of books advertisements!
