I hate telly....but I caught this programme a couple of weeks ago, and it was soooo good! This poor dumply plain girl with no self esteem turned into a gorgeous woman, without mad diets or anything fancy, just a bit of love & attention from a lovely chap (a stylist).
Anyone else seen it?

(....'course, all I have to do to look good naked is take me clobber orf!)

Aaaahhhh, Gok Wan, the queen of strange spectacles Grin

I like that show too.  I haven't seen it in ages, though.

Although I am extremely busy, I could possibly find time to Adjudicate.  For a reasonable fee, of course  Smiley

I worked with someone who was `Goked`, as she put it. It was quite an eye-opener to realise how low her self-esteem was and what a poor body image she had. As far as her colleagues were concerned she was an attractive, bubbly woman with a a very individual style of dressing.  The difference that her Gok `experience made was quite astonishing. The transformation didn`t stop after the cameras went away. She loved the `new` her and held onto her. She looked great!  Plus they let her keep the bra!

I haven't seen this programme, but I've sometimes watched "What not to Wear" and I'm always upset by the degree of low self-esteem, and in some cases depression as well. Surely the lifting of self-esteem has to go deeper than appearance? On principle I wouldn't wear what someone else told me to! Why should I think they know better than I do?

Because they're professionals; and all of your troubles in life are due to the fact that you wear jumpers.  Don't you know anything?

Yeah; that's true.  I remember watching 'the swan' once, I think; they gathered up all the poor lady's family and friends and got them to say on camera how ugly they thought she was.  Pretty barbaric, if you ask me.

I`m with you there, incs. Heavens, haven`t we come a long way from chucking rotten tomatoes at people in stocks? Angry  Then again, participants in these programmes volunteer themselves and, I would have thought that they might have at least a glimmer of what they might be letting themselves in for. It`s an odd mix of public humilation, fleeting celebraty status and counselling (I use that word in the loosest possible way).

I suddenly feel compelled to post the following:
