Welcome to Sounds Familiar!

The facilities on this new board offer several options for conducting quizzes, indeed the tricky Musical Connections quiz has resumed here. One quiz I've conducted elsewhere is a soundclip quiz. So I thought I'd try this board out with a similar one.

The 'elsewhere' had little classical knowledge and found it tough, but I thought an EASY classical quiz here would at least move along quickly and we could assess the interest very soon. Apologies if this quiz is at a 'Classic FM' level, but as I say it aims to get people into the game and hopefully will be completed very quickly. We (anyone) can then try something more challenging later.

So here we go, the first Sounds Familiar! Quiz. There will be 10 questions, I'll post the first and we'll move on to the next after correct answers have been given on this thread.

The question throughout this first quiz is 'Can you name the Composer and the Music?'

So, starting off the EASY Sounds Familiar! Quiz:

Name the composer and the music:

That would be the opening of "Venus", which bears a remarkable resemblance to the opening of a piano quintet by, er, me.

Hi Morticiaa, when you click the link it should open up Windows Media Player or Real Player or whatever software your PC defaults to. If you can play clips on Amazon, Naxos etc then this should work too.

I have Windows Media Player and RealPlayer, but all I`m seeing is the bar in the middle of ths screen loading the music. Rats! Should I put it down to being a dial-up Luddite?

Mort
If you're seeing the bar, it's loading. It's a matter of waiting. And waiting. And...  Cheesy
