My Fellow MBers

I have reason to believe that one of our number (no, not me) is even now getting into training for a charity trek later in the year in South Africa in aid of various very worthwhile projects for children. Further information about the trek, what those projects are, easy to follow instructions for making a contribution if you so wish, plus (if you are still hesitating) a photo of the intrepid trekker himself are set out here:

I would just like to offer a quick Thank you to Michael, for making this thread "sticky" (i.e. doesn't need to be bumped now)  Smiley

Yes, you weren't alone, A. I was wondering too (my excuse is going to be that the thread had already been 'stuck' by the time I read Ollie's posts - but I would say that wouldn't I ...).

Love the quote at the bottom of your postings 'time-is-now'. One of my favourite plays ... I could see it over and over again... and I have !!

Can someone explain to an ignoramus what in the context of mb 'bumped' and 'sticky' mean?

Apologies in advance for naivety.

When a thread is sticky, it will stay at teh top of teh board, with other sticky threads.

When it's not sticky, you need to keep 'bumping' it to get it to the top (i.e. making a new post on it)

Like the old TTT on the old boards (To The Top)

I've refrained from joining this thread until now so as not to appear in any way pushy, but I would just like to record my thanks to George for instituting it for me, and also to express my gratitude to those other board stalwarts who have already helped me very generously thus far.

I'm a little under half way towards my target, so if there's anybody else out there who could spare a fiver (or more) for these very worthy charities helping the young and vulnerable, specifically the autistic and those who have run away from home, I'd be very grateful. The site linked through George's post makes it secure and easy to donate.

Three weeks today I'll have been in the air for a couple of hours already, with five days slog in the mountains ahead of me...

Best wishes,

Ron

I'm just down to the Thames Valley and back for a funeral, Martle: the second wife of a friend of mine, whose wedding I attended less than two years ago. Mind you, it was not altogether unexpected; at the time of the ceremony she was 90, and he was 96!

The real long way South trip is in two weeks' time....
