17 - Schumann 2nd symphony?

Correct Mr. Autoharp; it is we think one of Schumann's most inspired moments. The rapidity of your response after a mere fifty-five minutes indicates that this work should be filed under "positive recognition" rather than "familiar." You receive 100 points plus a speed bonus of 45!

Here is a brief snatch which constitutes Puzzle 19 for rapidshare and sendspace mp3 formats.

In truth, Mr. Grew, it was neither recognised nor familiar.

Baz, you've really got me stumped with puzzle 18. Of course I'm stumped by all the others as well, but I feel like I should know that one!

So I raise you: PUZZLE 20

Sorry Mr. Dish, that is incorrect! A valiant guess though. (The piece in question was written quite a bit earlier than Cage's dabblings in the belly of the piano...)

Congratulations and 100 points to Mr Martle!  Smiley
I thought that one might have foxed people for a good deal longer! I think I first heard Ash on R3 some 10-15 years ago and am surprised that it doesn't seem to make appearances in concert programmes. I think it would make an ideal concert opener.

OK - let's try this wild idea! Is it Messiaen's Couleurs de la Cité céleste? (Syd, my bank manager, is happy to dock a few quid for being wrong.)

Bad luck Baz, it isn't, although it does sound rather colourful and celestial  Cool

One notes that Mr Grew himself has until now only ventured one single attempt at answering any of the puzzles.
