426 - this of course is Haydn's quartet in  D, Op 50, no. 6 ('The Frog'), movt. 4

Is correct, Mr Iron!  Smiley

427 - this is a guitar arrangement of one of the many Anonymous settings of Greensleeves that appear in English 16th-17th-c Lute books.

Is incorrect, Mr Iron!   Sad

I fear I may have missed your ingenuity again Mr Inquisitor! Since 426 is the "Frog quartet', can it possibly be that...

427 - is Dowland's "Frog Galliard"?

(Even if it is, it still has a strain of Greensleeves in it!)

Baz

Correct, Mr Iron. The choice of snatch for the Dowland was done deliberately to begin with that ‘Greensleeves’ reference. I don’t know any Dowland, but have just ordered the disc that this clip came from:

Then it stands to reason that...

425 is Handel, Israel in Egypt, "Their land brought forth frogs".

Emboldened, may I present Puzzle 430.

A first clue for #430: I had little choice but to cut off the snatch where I did, as immediately thereafter the chorus intones the name of the work, which is based on an ancient text.

Mr. Inquisitor's 435 is we think Dvorak's overture Othello opus 93 from the year 1892.
