Ah! So this isn't the British composer. In that case, Sibelius!

<please, please!>

  Ah, Mr Martle, your climb from the abyss continues, albeit step by small step! It was indeed by the Tempest music by Sibelius, specifically the Caliban movement from the Suite, thereby making a Tempest trio. The Sibelius was played at the Proms last season.

Hurrah! Here is my official rejoicing post re Britten.

...Pan is the Metamorphosis in question, leading me to surmise a connection based on the story of Pan and Syrinx.

Correct on both counts, leading up to a mythological trio:

Puzzle 64 = Nielsen's Pan and Syrinx
Puzzle 65 = Britten's Pan from his Six Metamorphoses after Ovid
Puzzle 66 = Debussy's Syrinx

Rejoice away!!

We say Hurrah! We have identified a piece we had not actually previously heard. We permit ourselves another small hop of restrained delight.
