This one - Puzzle 72 - is one of our easier ones and offers a quick Member accustomed to working under pressure the chance to snatch a not inconsiderable number of points. It may be found either HERE or HERE.

Is it our imagination or have fewer members been participating since the solver's points were increased from 100 to 180? It was intended to have the opposite effect.

I believe 72 is the coda to Brahms 2nd Symphony, 1st movt.

As far as the number of people participating is concerned, perhaps some members are experiencing snatch fatigue?

I believe 72 is the coda to Brahms 2nd Symphony, 1st movt.

Correct! Mr. Daniel had the answer in nine minutes and has gained 180 + (180 - 9) = 351 points.

Symphonies 2, 3, and 4 each have a curious short section of the same kind.

Five days have elapsed since I set Puzzle 51. The answer is: Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria by Monteverdi. We thought this had been solved several days ago by Mr. Barrett (although I believe he may have mis-spelt the composer's name) but note that it is classified as unsolved in Mr. Grew's latest update. We fear also that, this being a work for the opera house, it may be inadmissable in the 'classical' repertoire test. What a pity that would be.

Puzzle 51: set by Mr. Macrae here - as yet unsolved
The attentive reader will find that this puzzle was indeed actually solved by myself, in so far as I identified it as coming from the musical drama Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, a work generally attributed to Claudio Monteverde of Cremona as one could reasonably have assumed that I was aware despite my facetious designation of it as a work from the artful quill of Martin Butler.

Well, 74 would be Debussy's Golliwog's Cakewalk, I believe.

Is 76 the end of the coda to the fourth movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony?
