Did anyone see that fil of the train going through a wave gashing down onto the railway line on the news? Must be one of the best pictures I ever seen!!

Oh, so bbm, the news was that despite 'the weather' the trains were still running  Wink

The west of Scotland gets weather like today very frequently. I hope Jay Leno's researchers have been watching UK TV again this week, plenty to joke about for sure Roll Eyes

... and more to come, apparently.  I'm flying to Copenhagen tomorrow afternoon for a seminar in Malmo on Thursday and I'm hoping and praying that it won't be a re-run of Ron's journey north yesterday morning.

I hope so too, PW: but remember, if it is, that the overwing section is the most stable part of a plane in flight: make sure that you've had a proper loo visit before the trip, too, because if it is rough, you'll be perma-strapped to your seat, and the opportunity to use the facilities will be denied. (It's not a long flight though, is it? Wink)

Thanks Ron: sound advice.  I tend to go for a window anyway, so that (in daylight anyway) I can see what's going on (which is another reason for heeding the loo advice).

The flight's about an hour and three quarters.

I'm a window person, too, PW (as the hundreds of aerial photos in the Dough collection will attest), so I don't sit overwing from choice - indeed, as far back as possible is my usual position (penultimate row - the last one is usually windowless and reserved for off-duty crew in any case.) I even specify port or starboard when flying up or down as I prefer not to shoot into sunlight - made scant difference yesterday as we flew over half the trip in white-out conditions.

Looks as if we may get it tonight here in NW England. All my bins have just been emptied so will probably blow about. I've just put as many heavy things as I can find - old Yellow Pages, catalogues etc - into the recycling bin. This will either weight it down (the intention) or cause an embarrassing revelation of my reading habits when it all gets blown out.

Yes Mary.  I just watched the weather forecast and tonight/tomorrow morning it is our turn.   It looks horrendous.  Cry

Oh dear it is upon us with a vengeance!  I've just rung my friends who come every Tuesday to play Bridge in case they either want to cancel altogether or share a taxi.  Their cars would be buried in sand by the time the evening was over.  Mine is safely away in the garage.  I'm just waiting to hear what they decide.  I'd understand if they didn't want to bother.

The weather forecast says that Cumbria and around Morecambe Bay will be hardest hit but they're expecting problems on the M6 and this coastline in particular.

Wish me luck.  Sad

I certainly will, Mills: it's working its way northwards, so doubtless we'll be in for some at some point, too, though hopefully on a south-facing section of the East Coast the full brunt should be somewhat inacerbated.  Roll Eyes

Very windy here. I'm feeling a bit trepid.

Good luck, Milly.

Thanks Mary.  It would appear my friends are going to brave the elements and come round as usual, but I'm glad I can stay doors. :-)

Yesterday morning at 7 SMP described the weather as "nasty"....so I e-mailed her to say, No, it's wild, windy, natural, its weather, that we had had a stormy night in Cornwall, but weather isn't nasty.

Anyway at 8am she gave me a thankyou !

I suppose I'll have to be nice about her all week now....no complaining about the Swingle Bliddy Singers or anything.

Calmer in the SW now, which is just as well, as some tin has blown off two of my creaky old outbuildings !
