I'd like to have some toast with edam right now.
Edam is one of my guilty pleasures.
I will eat it while drinking some chamomile tea.

Just had one of those 'want biscuits' moments.
So I downed tools (gulp) and ran across the road (once the traffic had stopped - I was not following the example of the three gentlemen who ran over the road into oncoming traffic) to get some.
Double chocolate chip cookies.

We've been at school Open Day so I'm on cooking-strike yet again.  I seem to be doing that quite often these days but don't feel too guilty.  We're having a Chinese takeaway for three and it's being taxi-delivered so I don't even have to drive there.  It's my favourite Chinese restaurant in this area and one of the only two things I'd travel to Blackpool for, the second being our little Matcham jewel, the Grand Theatre.  The restaurant is called the Paramount and although it is only small and not terribly exciting to sit in, the food is the best I think.

Bone idle that's me!!  Grin

My father used to say that if I fell down the loo I'd come up with a bunch of roses!

You'll never guess what just happened to us!!  I ordered three meals for us from the Chinese restaurant, which duly arrived by taxi.  I paid for it and took it into the kitchen, but when I started to unpack it they'd sent the wrong order.  We'd received the most fantastic Chinese banquet for four.  Loads of tubs of gorgeous food - but not what we'd ordered.   I thought I'd better be honest and ring and tell them.  When I rang to say we hadn't touched the food if they wanted to come and collect it, they apologised for their mistake, said our proper food was on the way for which there would be no charge and we were welcome to keep the banquet!   NOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!   In the end there was far too much for the three of us so I've rung one of my sons who is going to pick up the rest.

All in all a lovely surprise.  Cheesy

It was very difficult for us of course Olly, but we just had to put up with it I'm afraid.  That's life.  Cheesy

My stomach is still reeling somewhat from a medieval restaurant in Dresden a couple of nights back. No cutlery except a wooden spoon and a wooden knife, no personal plates and no potatoes (although we did get tomatoes...). I shared a damn fine plate of game with one of our horn players. It was quite enormous and given that I was already practically full from the introductory bread and Schmalz it turned out to be quite an ask. (They also brought a rabbit to the table which hopped around for a bit. You'll be relieved to know we didn't eat it. There was also a donkey and a goat wandering about. A tad kitschy but very tasty (the actual food, not the donkey and goat which we similarly did not eat). Anno Domini, the place was called, in case anyone here is planning to be in Hellerau any time soon.)

I'm glad you added that last bit, Ollie, because for one moment I thought ... Shocked

What do people munch in those 'sugar-low' moments? I have never really had a sweet tooth, and will more often than not forego any dessert with meals. I don't eat sweets or chocolate very much, either. However, I regularly get a 'dip' in my day, usually between 3 and 4 in the afternoon. I know I should swig fruit juice instead, but I have a secret and guilty tub of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream in the freezer for such moments.  Embarrassed (Mind you, it only takes a couple of spoonfuls, so the tub lasts a long time...)

It depends on what's to hand largely.
I don't have a fixed solution to this (though I have mints in my coat pocket in case I really need a sugar hit) so anything from a cheese scone to chocolate bar will do at a push. It often depends if I'm feeling an emotional dip as well as an energy dip, in which case it has to be chocolate.

Eating sugar is the worst thing for a sugar low. You need complex carbohydrates!

Indeed, not sugar for me because then it's off on the sugar high and low roller-coaster and that's no fun. Bananas maybe. Or tasty muesli thingies. My lunch today consisted of two pumpkin-seed bars. (Dinner was healthier.)

Even a piece of cheese will put your blood sugar up.  Strange but true.

You're right, martle, in thinking you ought have fruit juice - it works much faster than anything else if you're feeling shaky.  But it should be supplemented with something more sustaining - some nuts, muesli, cheese, oatcakes, something like that.

Maybe you could switch to a Ben&Jerry's that's got nuts in it.
